Planning Permission Granted for 42 Riverside Apartments

Gilbert and Hall is pleased to announce that plans to build 42 apartments near to the Meadows Embankment have been given the green light. The former Eagle Press site, located between Riverside Way and Robin Hood Way, will be demolished to build the apartment complex.

The scheme consists of an apartment complex with 42 one and two bedroom properties, built over two wings at three and four-storeys in height. Parking for 30 cars with, electric charging points, accessed from Robin Hood Way, are provided for at ground floor level. A cycle store for 42 bicycles is to be constructed within the parking area and each apartment has either a terrace or a balcony.

A statement submitted to the council by Rayner Davies, our architects stated:

"The applicant has responded thoughtfully to Nottingham City Council’s pre-application comments and has amended the design to increase active frontage at ground floor areas and to lower the building height to three storeys in two key areas to break up the mass of the proposal into separate elements. It is demonstrated that a future scheme has the potential to greatly enhance the street scene when compared with the existing use. The accommodation proposed is of a high quality and residents would enjoy above average floor areas, desirable external amenity spaces which overlook the River Trent and the majority would benefit from dual aspect frontages ensuring excellent daylighting and natural ventilation."

Residents in the area have welcomed the plans, saying the development would be a good use of the site;

"The building looks quite run down at the minute. There's lots of development going on in the area, and this would be a welcome addition."

Others commented;

"I like the designs that have been put forward and it's not too big that it would cause a nightmare for traffic, the existing building itself is a bit of an eyesore, so it would look much better as apartments. I could see them being in high demand given the location to the city centre and the greenspace of The Embankment."
